president obama up by 18. a new suffolk university poll out this week asked about the forced ultrasound law passed by republicans in the legislature in virginia this year, signed into law by the republican governor in the state, bob mcdonald. virginia voters opposed that law by 17 points. the anti-abortion crusade that has been undertaken this year by republican-led state government in virginia is not popular in virginia. and now virginia women are prepared to take it out on the presidency, right? they're planning to vote against the republicans' candidate for president in their state by 18 points. and that was the context for a really important move made by virginia's republican attorney general this week, a move that could be important for the presidential race in virginia. this week the attorney general certified a new set of regulations targeted only at abortion clinics in the united states. the rules are just targeting abortion providers. it red tape specifically designed is to make it economically imposs

i said does obama like you? and there's a lot of people who are going to see that ad and say, i'm in that picture somewhere. i'm a veteran, i'm this kind of person, i'm that kind of person. am i in that list of 47%? the answer, i guess, is yes. >> well, the flip side of what chuck was talking about in terms of the still existent enthusiasm gap on the obama side, on the romney side i think mitt romney has kind of maxed out on the people who are going to vote for him because they're against obama. mitt romney's challenge in this upcoming debate and in the other debates is to show some sense of humanity and empathy that will get some people to vote for him on a positive basis. that's what's missing now. that's the 2% or 3% or 4% that he's missing that he's got to get. he's not going to get any more out of the anti-obama message. he's got to get it out of a pro-romney message, which is exactly why the obama campaign is running that ad that you just showed in colorado and in the other swing states. >> yeah. >> hey, a

it was obama's fault, and romney was mr. fix-it. and in each of those tenets it seemed to me they have gone out the window. i think obama will start asking where is the beef. the numbers are very clear about the economic turnaround since he's been president. he has an economic jobs recovery act now which by everybody's reckoning would create somewhere between 1 million and 2 million jobs. on the other hand, you have romney who has no economic plan whatsoever other than to say i want to cut taxes below the 15% ofg dp that they are right now, and then the other night he says, well, i don't want to actually cut the actual tax rate, i want to cut rates and then i want to increase deductions and give us effectively the same amount of taxes coming into the economy which leaves him with an unutterly incoherent record. with romney you have nothing and i think the message you will start hearing next week is going back to that old mondale commercial, where is the beef, show us the beef, because there ain't none there. >> john, before we evisc
